Although originally scheduled to air today, August 16th, WSVA moved our radio hour to Monday, August 14th, due to pressing events at the time. And despite Andy Schmookler being in Shenandoah County and my recent move to Morgantown, WV, the show will go on!
For our 49th episode, the issues centered around the rally and violence in Charlottesville over the weekend as well as a possible military strike against North Korea due to threats against Guam. We also touched on the failure of Obamacare repeal and the feud between Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell and President Trump. We would have also spoken about Elizabeth Warren and the fight for ideological control of the Democratic Party, but we ran out of time.
If you missed the show live, you can can listen to it here (once they have finished processing it). Thanks for listening!
In July of 2013, Andy Schmookler and I got together on the air to talk about politics on 550 AM, WSVA. At that time, who would guess that four years later we would still be discussing the issues of the day?
Well, yesterday marked the four year anniversary. The show was dominated by the news of Donald Trump Jr. and his tweets regarding setting up a meeting with a Russian agent during the 2016 presidential election. Andy brought up Watergate and I spoke a little about the 2017 election for Virginia governor. And then, before you knew it, the hour was over.
In addition, the July 13th show was the last one I’ll be doing in the studio for quite awhile given that I’m moving to Morgantown, WV in a few weeks. But, the station says that the show will go on!

A day after the Virginia primaries for governor and lieutenant governor, Andy Schmookler and I returned to 550 AM, WSVA.
The central focus, as you might expect, was a discussion of the election results. We also spoke about the recent congressional testimonies of James Comey and Jess Sessions.

On the morning of May 3rd, Andy Schmookler and I appeared for our 46th time on 550 AM, WSVA. For the first time, neither of us were live in the studio today as Andy lives a good distance away and although I presently live in Harrisonburg, unfortunately, my car repairs are taking longer than anticipated.
Today, we spoke about Representative Bob Goodlatte (VA-6) and his lack of accessibility to the average person in the Shenandoah Valley, as well as President Donald Trump, his various proposals, and whether what he is doing is constitutional. We also briefly touched on the recent Democratic primary for the 26th district House of Delegates race.
Our next show will be at 9 AM on June 14th, the day after the Republican and Democratic primaries.

WSVA EARLY MORNINGS , 5/03/17 -TALKIN’ POLITICS WITH JOSH & ANDY
On the morning of Wednesday, April 4th, Andy Schmookler and Joshua Huffman appeared on 550 AM, WSVA for our monthly radio hour.
The main topic of the day was Neil Gorsuch and his appointment to the Supreme Court. As the confirmation vote draws near, more Democratic Senators, including Virginia’s own Tim Kaine, have announced they will not support Mr. Gorsuch. Will he be confirmed? Is this payback for what happened to Merrick Garland last year? Will Senate Republican use the nuclear option?
The next subject we briefly tackled concerned a speech that Andy Schmookler gave outside of Representative Bob Goodlatte’s Harrisonburg office the previous day. At that time, he challenged Goodlatte to a debate or for him to investigate the possible unethical and illegal actions taken by President Trump both before and after he was elected.

On the morning of March 15th, Andy Schmookler and I, Joshua Huffman, appeared on 550 AM WSVA for our monthly radio hour. The topics for discussion included: Obamacare and Paul Ryan’s attempts to craft his own health care law, the 2017 Virginia elections including the increasing number of contested elections for the House of Delegates in the central Shenandoah Valley, and President Trump’s connections with Russia and whether this issue creates a massive conflict of interest with his duties to the Constitution and the American people.

On Wednesday, February 1st, I made my monthly appearance on 550 AM, WSVA. However, as Andy Schmookler was out of state, I was joined in studio by another Andy, Andy Harbick. Andy Harbick is a local businessman and we both attend RISE United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg.
Our political discussion centered mainly on the actions of President Donald Trump, such as his recent pick for the Supreme Court, his cabinet positions, and various other actions. In addition, as Virginia will be holding elections for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and all 100 seats in the House of Delegates in November, we briefly touched upon the 2017 elections.
As always, if you missed the show live, you can find it here.
Thanks again to Andy Harbick for filling in! And, for the Andy Schmookler fans out there, he should be returning to the show next month.
On the morning of Wednesday, January 4th, Andy Schmookler and I had our 42nd political radio hour on 550 AM WSVA. Although I never time it, the show seemed a bit shorter than usual, perhaps starting later and/or with more commercial breaks.
The main topics of the day included: the end of the Obama presidency, his legacy, and the start of the Trump presidency. We also briefly considered whether and to what extent the Russians may have played in the recent elections. We planned to discuss Representative Bob Goodlatte’s attempt to dismantle of the independent House ethics committee and the resulting blowback from the public and President-elect Trump but unfortunately didn’t have sufficient time.
As usual, if you missed today’s show, you can find it here.
On Wednesday, December 7th, Andy Schmookler and Joshua Huffman appeared on 550 AM, WSVA for their monthly political radio hour. We looked back on 2016, including the surprising presidential election, and spoke about the 2017 elections, which includes the race for the next Governor of Virginia. After all, there is at least one election in Virginia every single year.
As always, if you missed the show live, you can catch it on the WSVA website.
Thanks for listening!
On Wednesday, October 5th, Andy Schmookler and Joshua Huffman appeared on WSVA, 550 AM for their 40th radio hour. The main focus of their discussion was the previous night’s vice-presidential debate between Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia (D) and Governor Mike Pence of Indiana (R). Toward the end of the program, with one month to go until the election, they also offered their predictions of how things will turn out.
